Books Every Entrepreneur Should Read
I’ve spent a lot of time researching and analysing successful people and what unites them in their success. One thing that has stood out for me is their unquenchable thirst for knowledge and learning.
Before he left The White House, Barack Obama was asked what helped him get through the last 8 years. His answer? Books.
In an interview with Michiko Kakutani for the New York Times, Obama said,
“At a time when events move so quickly and so much information is transmitted,” he said, reading gave him the ability to occasionally “slow down and get perspective” and “the ability to get in somebody else’s shoes.” These two things, he added, “have been invaluable to me. Whether they’ve made me a better president I can’t say. But what I can say is that they have allowed me to sort of maintain my balance during the course of eight years, because this is a place that comes at you hard and fast and doesn’t let up.”
As entrepreneurs we’re often left feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of resources and content out there, that we just don’t know what to do next.
So I wanted to make this easy for you. I’ve been at this entrepreneurship thing for over 11 years, and during that time I’ve read hundreds of books on business and self-development – and today I wanted to share my favourites with you. I read these books time and time again and take something different from them each time.
I purposefully get up an hour earlier to read every day (more on morning routines another time) as this is the only time I know I won’t be interrupted as everyone else is sleeping…
Without further ado… here are some of my favourite books I think every entrepreneur should read…
I love this book and it really has changed my life. This morning routine sets me up for success every day and since I started I’ve found my productivity has soared and I’m far more focused in my day.
Productivity and focus seems to be something that all entrepreneurs I meet would like more of. I read The One Thing around 12 months ago and it has been the guidance for how I have scheduled and planned my days ever since.
This book gets to the heart of why thinking BIG will not only help you eliminate negative thoughts and defeat disbelief, but also programme your mind of success and live a bigger, fuller and life that you have always imagined.
Sinek’s book Start With Why has sparked conversation and debate in the entrepreneurial world since it was first published in 2009. Sinek believes that it is only by putting your “why” at the centre of everything you do, that you are able to truly scale your business and turn your customers into raving brand ambassadors.
Working on your mindset is the first thing I recommend you do if you want to grow your business and personally, I think Dweck’s book on mindset should be required reading, not just for entrepreneurs, but for school students and parents. This book analyses how we think and enables you to change your thinking to fulfil your potential.
You know what they say… Tidy house, tidy mind. Whilst Marie Kondo’s book isn’t a traditional “business book”, I truly believe that by organising and tidying the rest of your life, your business will begin to thrive as you rid yourself of all that mental clutter.
What are your favourite reads for entrepreneurship and personal development? I’m always looking for recommendations… please share them with my in my Facebook Group here. (If you’ve not yet joined you should! There are some pretty inspirational people in there and you never know who you might find who can help you on your journey…)
